About The Monarch

          His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej {poo'-mee-pon ah-doon'-yah-dayt}, the ninth monarch of the Royal Chakri Dynasty, was born on Monday 5^th December 1927, Cambridge, Massachusetts, the united states of America, son of Their Royal Highnesses Prince and Princess Mahidol of Songkhla and a grandson of King Chulalongkorn. He has followed the resolute purpose of both his father and grandfather who in their time were determined to develop and reform various institutions of Thailand to bring them abreast with those of the Western World. With deepest concern for the Thai Nation, His Majesty, who is both a theorist and a practitioner of development and regarded as a paragon of virtue, has applied his perseverance and devotion to the sustainable development for the secure future of his people which is a recoginzed fact worldwide.
 

Education

          After a brief period of primary schooling at Mater Dei School in Bangkok, His Majesty left for Lausanne, Switzerland to further his primary education at Miremont and secondary education at the Ecole Nouvelle de la Suisse Romande, Chailly-sur-Lausanne. He received the Bachelier ès Lettres diploma from the Gymnase Classique Cantonal, and then chose to enter the University of Lausanne to study Science but later changed to Political Science and Law due to the demand of duty.

Literary Works

          His Majesty's literary genius has long been recognized by the Thai people. His major works, Nai In Phu Pit Thong Lang Phra, published in 1993, translated from A Man Called Intrepid by William Stevenson and Tito, published in 1994, translated from the book of the same title by Phyllis Auty, were best-sellers among the Thai translation publications in those years. As for the first book, the publication of over 100,000 copies has been an all-time record. His Majesty has graciously donated the proceeds from the books to the Chai Pattana Foundation.
