Guide Bang Pa-In Summer Palace (Tel. (035) 261004) This beautiful palace is some 30 kms. south of Ayntthaya. It was built in the reign of King Rama V. The palace consists of many Royal Buildings built in contrasting architectural styles. Thai, Chinese, Italian and Victorian styles predominate. The most well-known building is a Thai pavilion in the centre of a small lake. It is regarded by many as one of the finest examples of Thai architecture. The only building in the palace open to visitors is the Chinese style Wehat Chamrun Palace. The palace complex can be reached by bus from the Northem Bus Temminal, Bangkok, or by local buses from Ayutthaya. The grounds are open every day, from 8.30 am-4.00 pm. There is an admission fee of 50 baht. Chao Phraya Express Co., organizes an economically priced boat trip to Bang pa In every Sunday and official holidays leaving Maharat Pier at 8.00 am.
